Tigertail Lake Recreational Center’s SCUBA program features full PADI certified courses. After taking the course, which is taught by a certified PADI instructor, the student will have acquired their official PADI open-water certification.

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes. We strongly encourage that you bring snacks and electrolyte beverages as there is some strenuous physical activity involved in completing the course. Please check with the course descriptions for additional information.

If it rains during the class, we continue on as long as the instructor can maintain visibility with students. However, in the event of lightning, all participants are required to seek shelter. Tigertail Lake is equipped with a Thorguard Lightning Prediction and Warning System.

Blended learning/online courses aren’t for everybody. If your schedule is extremely tight, if you’ve got experience with online coursework, and/or you’ve been certified in the past, then blended e-learning may be a viable option for you. If this is your first time taking a CPR/AED/First Aid course or you know that you may not have the discipline to complete the online coursework effectively, it is recommended that you sign up for the Instructor-led course. Yes. You may already have certifications that are considered above your Lifeguarding certification, but the course must be completed in its entirety in order to receive a Red Cross certification. That includes taking CPR/AED/First Aid.

We offer Red Cross certification, which may fulfill your requirements for Basic Life Support (BLS). However, we do not guarantee this and you should check with your professor or advisor to ensure that Red Cross certification will provide you with what you need.

No, this is a Lifeguarding course and one of the prerequisites is a 300 yard swim test in order to ensure that not only can you swim, but you are also efficient enough to swim a distance. If you cannot pass the prerequisites for this course, for your own safety you may not attend the course.

All SCUBA-related equipment is provided, including Buoyancy Control Device (BCD), regulator and related equipment, and air tank. You need to bring your own mask, fins, and snorkel.

PADI is one of the most recognized certifying bodies on the planet. We certify according to PADI standards and provide PADI certifications. For more information about PADI, please visit their website.

The minimum age for SCUBA is 12 years old. We encourage all potential SCUBA students to try a “discovery dive” to see if SCUBA is right for them.

Tigertail Lake is approximately 60 feet at its deepest point. Most instruction, however, takes place at about 30 feet of depth.

There are no alligators in Tigertail Lake, just small freshwater fish and turtles.

A veritable theme park of sunken treasures awaits you, as we have several attractions below the surface of the water. Our instructors even schedule tours of the lake’s underwater attractions, such as the Lost Smuggler’s Plane, the Jenny, and a model of the USS Saratoga.

No. All diving must be done under the direct supervision of a qualified SCUBA instructor or one of our Divemasters. Recreational diving is not permitted at Tigertail Lake.

No. Recreational snorkeling is not allowed at Tigertail Lake. However, snorkeling may be taught as part of the SCUBA curriculum, under the direct supervision of a qualified Tigertail Lake SCUBA instructor or Divemaster.
